Amending orders
An amendment updates a live order: quantities, unit prices, adding or ending attributes, and end dates. You stage the changes in the dashboard, review a preview of the exact billing consequences, and apply them as one atomic change. Every applied amendment is recorded on the order’s history together with the previewed plan, so you can always see what changed, when, and what it did to billing.
To amend an order, open it in the dashboard and choose Amend order from the actions menu.
What you can change
Changing what an attribute fundamentally is (its charge type) is not a single amendment: end the old attribute and add the new one instead.
Preview before you apply
The change preview updates live as you stage changes and shows:
- Immediate changes: what takes effect now, including any prorated credits and charges with their exact amounts.
- Future changes: what takes effect later, such as a quantity that starts billing at the next cycle or an end date taking effect on its day.
- Net today: the total that will be invoiced immediately, per currency.
Nothing happens until you select Apply amendment. If the order is changed by someone else while you are editing, the preview refreshes against the latest state and your staged changes are kept, so you can review and apply again.
Proration
Quantity changes, price changes, and ends on recurring charges offer a proration choice:
- No proration (default): nothing is settled mid-cycle. The current cycle stays as billed, and the new configuration bills from the next cycle.
- Prorate: the unused remainder of the current cycle is credited at the old configuration and, for quantity and price changes, charged at the new one. The result is invoiced immediately and posts with the normal billing run.
Proration applies to recurring charges billed in advance with a per-unit price. When there is nothing prepaid to credit, choosing Prorate simply does nothing, and the preview says so.
Usage pricing changes
Usage attributes bill from recorded signals, so a price change chooses which signals the new price covers:
- New usage only (default): usage recorded before the amendment bills at the old price on a final bill the day after the change. Signals from the amendment onward bill at the new price.
- Whole period: the entire current period, including usage already recorded, bills once at the new price.
When you add a new usage attribute, it bills signals sent from the amendment onward. Signals sent before the amendment are not billed on the new attribute; they are retained and can be backfilled later.
Add an attribute mid-cycle
An attribute added between billing cycle boundaries has a partial first period before the next cycle starts. You choose how that partial period is charged:
- Prorated (default): the partial period is charged pro rata and invoiced immediately.
- Free: the partial period is not charged. Billing starts at the next cycle.
- Full price: the partial period bills at the full cycle price at the next billing run.
Credit benefits on the added attribute are granted immediately for the current period in all three cases.
Change the order end date
The order end date is the single control for term changes; lines follow it.
- Moving it earlier (including cancelling renewal) caps every line that would outlive the new date. Lines that already end earlier keep their own dates. Choose Prorate to credit any already-billed time past the new end.
- Moving it later extends the lines you select. Lines with no end date of their own always follow the order’s end date; dated lines only move when selected, and at least one line must extend with the order.
Cancel renewal in the order’s actions menu is a shortcut for the same edit, pre-filled with the end of the current billing period.
